Slam Dunk: why I like Ryota Miyagi

Someone who can give the team 'speed' and 'heart'

Of all the characters in Slam Dunk, Ryota Miyagi (Song Tae-seop in the Korean edition) is the one I like most.
I really love how he overcomes his short stature, a weakness for a basketball player, and breathes life into the team with speed and heart.

In The First Slam Dunk, which opened earlier this year, I got to see him play the lead, and it made me like him even more than before.

The way he played in the final game of Slam Dunk, against Sannoh, captured the attitude I should aim for as a marketer going forward.

A good B2B marketer = a point guard?

From the moment I decided to commit my career to B2B marketing, I've often thought that I should become something like the team's point guard.

Rather than going for points myself, I decided to be the one who sees the game from a wider perspective and delivers good passes.

According to my limited basketball knowledge, the key skill for a point guard is moving constantly and finding the right passing lanes, and that too feels similar in spirit to being a B2B marketer.

On the job, I generate good prospects (lead gen), run the activities that raise the odds of closing a deal (lead nurturing), and then toss the ball to the salesperson who can handle it best, so in a sense I'm already working in a similar context.

May he never lose his pure passion and heart

Beyond his role on the team, Miyagi is really charming on a human level too.

I love that he stays true to the person he likes and has the passion to want to show her his best side.
In the final moment, it was because Ayako was there that he could become the No. 1 guard.

It reminds me how wonderful it is to have someone who believes in your success and cheers you on.
Will there be a day when a wonderful person I can cheer on, and who cheers me on, comes into my life too?

That would be really nice.

Wasn't it his love for Ayako that finally made him the No. 1 guard?
