Please read this before you open the files!
- Anyone with the link below can view the files, so as long as it's not for commercial use, feel free to share it with people you know :)
- The resume and portfolio are organized strictly from the perspective of my own career, so honestly, I don't expect them to be directly useful to you.
- Even so, I plan to keep building on this post, hoping to spare those preparing for a marketing job at least a little trial and error :)
Key points for writing a resume & portfolio (last updated Oct. 3, 2023)
Around 2022, when I was putting together the files above, these are the things I remember thinking about :)
+ I've built my career entirely in-house, from day one to now, with no agency experience, so my perspective may differ from that of people who came up through agencies.
What to decide before job hunting: industry & role
If I could go back to my first job search, I'd think about this part much more seriously. Here's an example to clarify what I mean by industry and role.
e.g.
Industry: F&B, beauty, fashion, e-commerce, IT, offline retail, etc.
Role: brand marketer, content marketer, performance marketer, growth marketer
I've noticed that many job seekers focus on the role rather than the industry.
In my experience, changing roles was relatively easy, but switching industries was harder than I expected.
And in terms of effectiveness, I think it's worth finding the industry that fits you.
I believe marketing is a job you're happiest in when your work and your passion line up :)
++ On roles, people have been saying lately that performance marketing is dead and content and CRM are getting the attention. In the end, though, I think the growth marketer armed with 'data-driven thinking' and 'planning skills' will be the one who lasts longest, haha.
This post will be updated on an ongoing basis.
