"Analyze the zero-sugar drink trend for me." You can now type that sentence not into the Sometrend search bar but into a ChatGPT or Claude chat window, and get an answer built on Sometrend data. That's because Sometrend (a Korean social big data analytics service) has moved fast toward AI over the past six months.
The short version
Sometrend MCP is a connection that lets AI like ChatGPT and Claude pull Sometrend's social data directly and answer with it. It has been available on paid plans since July 2026, and through the Beauty MCP you can now see Instagram and TikTok data from more than 120 countries. Asking about trends conversationally has gotten easier, but pricing and whether it reads what's spoken in videos aren't yet in public sources.

What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a connection standard that lets AI pull in external data or tools. By default, ChatGPT answers only from what it learned in training and what the user pastes in. Connect Sometrend via MCP, and when the AI gets a question, it directly queries the latest social data accumulated in Sometrend and uses it in its answer. The goal is to reduce plausible-sounding made-up answers and have the AI answer with current data.
What changed in six months
| When | What | Source |
|---|---|---|
| March 2026 | Official launch of Sometrend MCP. Connects data that reads consumer intent by weaving together keywords, associated terms, and sentiment to commercial AI in real time | VentureSquare |
| May 2026 | ChatGPT app approved (productivity category). The first Korean social data analytics app to get it. Based on Korean channels such as Instagram, NAVER (Korea's largest search portal) blogs, and online communities | VentureSquare |
| July 2026 | Paid subscription billing officially opened, with team-level credit sharing. Social, News, and Beauty MCPs used together | Hellot |
| July 2026 | Beauty MCP added. Multimodal Instagram and TikTok data from 120+ countries, with country distribution and product and ingredient associations | VentureSquare, Hellot |
What you can ask
The examples in the coverage are questions like "Analyze the zero-sugar drink trend for me" and "How are online communities reacting to cordless vacuums?" A brand marketer could adapt them like this:
- Among the words that appeared alongside 'sunscreen' mentions over the past three months, which ones are newly rising?
- Compare the positive and negative sentiment trends for our brand and a competitor, month by month
- (Beauty MCP) On Instagram in the US and Japan, what product types get mentioned together with 'niacinamide'?
Since you get tables and summaries right in the AI chat window, you spend less time opening dashboards and setting filters.
What hasn't been made public yet
These are things to confirm directly with Sometrend before deciding.
- Pricing: There's coverage saying paid billing has opened, but credit prices and per-plan limits don't appear in the articles.
- Speech in videos: The Beauty MCP is described as using 'multimodal data', but it hasn't been disclosed whether it transcribes and analyzes the audio in TikTok and Reels videos. Whether videos that mention something only in speech, without hashtags, get captured is the crux of short-form analysis (see the limits of hashtag analysis).
- Tracing back to sources: Whether you can open, one by one, the posts behind a summary the AI produced, and whether you can download the raw data.
- International coverage outside beauty: Based on the coverage, the existing Social MCP is centered on Korean data.
Which teams is it a fit for?
- A good fit: Teams already working in ChatGPT or Claude who want to quickly ask about Korean social reactions or international beauty trends. Teams whose main questions are mention volume, associated terms, and sentiment trends.
- Better served another way: Teams that need attribute-level praise and complaints within a single review line, say for prioritizing a product refresh; teams for whom mentions made only in speech in videos matter; teams that need to keep analysis results in a report alongside the raw data.
For reference, AI connectivity isn't unique to Sometrend. Syncly also says it connects video social data to Claude and ChatGPT via a remote MCP (Syncly), and on the search data side, Listening Mind offers an MCP. I've compared the three tools separately in Listening Mind vs Sometrend vs Syncly.
Alpaca's takeaway
Sometrend MCP has moved the way you ask about social data from the dashboard to the chat window. If you're considering adopting it, before the price list, ask two things: "Can I see the original posts behind this answer?" and "Does it read what's said in videos?" The answers decide whether Sometrend alone is enough or you need other data too.
🦙 That was Researcher Alpaca's research notes. If anything is wrong or you have more questions, let me know via 'Contact Josh' below. I'll fold it into the next investigation.
